IT STARTED WITH A SIMPLE EXPERIMENT
Area Fifty Yum started with a fascination for freeze-dried treats and the surprising transformation that happens when familiar sweets become light, crisp, and crunchy.
What began as an experiment quickly turned into something worth sharing.
So we created Area Fifty Yum: a small-batch confectionery built around familiar treats, unexpected textures, and a healthy appreciation for UFOs, secret laboratories, and things the government probably doesn’t want us asking about.
The candy is real. The classified files are questionable.

Every specimen begins with something familiar.
What happens next changes the experience completely.
RECOVER
We start with commercially prepared candies and treats
selected for their flavor and how well they respond
to freeze-drying.
TRANSFORM
Freeze-drying removes moisture at low temperatures,
dramatically changing the texture of many candies
from chewy or soft to light and crunchy.
DECLASSIFY
The finished specimens are packaged, labeled,
and released from containment for public consumption.
